Recipe name: Sugar Donuts w/out Yeast
Preparation time: 1 hour
Cooking time: 2-3 minutes per batch
If you're the type of person who doesn't like the taste of yeast in your donuts, this donut recipe will be a good option for you. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
4 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup powdered sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk powder
Water for buttermilk solution
1 tbsp white vinegar
2 eggs
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 tbsp vanilla essence
Procedure:
Preparation of liquid ingredients:
To make an alternative for buttermilk, add milk powder in a 1 cup then volume up with water until it's full. Mix well the milk solution. Add white vinegar, mix and set aside. Wait for the vinegar and the milk solution to react.
In a separate bowl, beat two eggs until smooth. Add butter/ margarine or vegetable oil and whisk. Add vanilla essence to add sweet aroma for the dough later. Add the milk- vinegar solution. Mix well until smooth. Add the sugar and dissolve.
In a separate bowl, sift all the dry ingredients. Combine all purpose flour, baking powder and salt together. Mix well using spatula.
Combine the dry ingredients to the liquid ingredients. Add the dry ingredients batch by batch to the liquid ingredients. Mix using spatula until dough is formed. Add more flour if needed. If the texture is ready, knead for few minutes. Grease the dough with oil and leave for few minutes.
After that, knead the dough. Use flour for dusting if needed. Flatten the dough using rolling pin. Roll the pin until you get the desired thickness of the dough. Use donut molder if preferred or weigh equally small amount of dough depending how big or small you want. Form each dough into a sphere, flatten and make a hole at the center using your finger. Make the hole large enough to make a hollow at the center of the dough.
Preheat oil in a frying pan for 5 mins medium heat. Deep fry the dough for 1-2 minutes each side in a low fire setting. Wait until the donuts puffed and golden brown in color. And that's it, roll the donuts in powdered sugar or make glaze to upgrade the flavors. These donuts can be crispy from the outside but rest assured it's very soft on the inside. Easy right? Make your own donuts without yeast is really possible.
